Dear PERA Retiree:
As employees and retirees face reduced benefits, discontinued pensions, and skyrocketing health care costs in this country, now more than ever we need a unified voice. Did you know there is such a voice for PERA retirees? Our group intends to be vigilant regarding recent developments, minimizing financial impact to retirees and protecting our hard-earned benefits. Our goal is to sign up enough new members that even small participation by each member can result in significant resources. This past year we assisted a fellow member with court costs when her benefits were threatened. You can be assured of our support should you face such a crisis.
We are not all business, either. We have a drawing and refreshments at each meeting, have interesting guest speakers from time to time, and just enjoy keeping in touch with each other. Meetings are held as follows:

We have a Christmas lunch at the Masonic Temple, and a July picnic at Chambers Grove Park in Fond du Lac. These two informal lunches are also held the second Wednesday of the month. The Christmas luncheon starts at 12:30 p.m., and the July picnic starts at 12:00 p.m. with lunch at 12:30 p.m. There is no meeting in August.
We now have two websites for retirees to visit. They are: mapera.org and duluthretirees.org.
Both websites contain valuable information for retirees.
The membership committee includes Ted Griak, Roger Hartsberg, Bill Kernan, Bob LaFlamme, Eli Miletich, and Gerald Veillet. Our current president is Ed Carlson.
